Rescheduling an MCCQE appointment costs $35 if you do it early and your entire $1,500 application fee if you do it late. Between those two numbers sit a set of MCC rules — the twelve-month eligibility window, the Prometric booking system, the withdrawal fee, the extenuating-circumstances review — that decide how much a change of plan costs you. This guide lays out the full 2026 fee schedule for the MCCQE and its companion exams, the exact reschedule and cancellation deadlines, and the steps to move a date without losing money.

MCC fee schedule and MCCQE scheduling page, September 2026. All fees in Canadian dollars; the MCC accepts Visa and MasterCard only. For comparison, the NAC Examination is $3,320 (withdrawal fee $538, scheduling request $130, $1,660 administration fee for an absence with extenuating circumstances) and the TDM Examination is $2,850 (withdrawal fee $1,425).
The realistic all-in cost for an international graduate’s first MCCQE attempt is therefore about $1,900 before preparation materials, and a second attempt adds another $1,500. Set against that, a question bank at $119 to $499 is the cheapest line on the page — which is the argument for not sitting until you are ready rather than “seeing how it goes”.
How MCCQE scheduling works
You apply on physiciansapply.ca; once the application is accepted you have twelve months to sit. Appointments are booked separately through Prometric and open five months before each session, first come, first served. Since August 2026 every appointment is in person at a Prometric test centre — remote proctoring is no longer offered — so the constraint is a seat in the centre you want during the window you want. Sessions in 2027 are January 19 – February 11, April 27 – June 1, August 10 – September 7 and October 5 – 26; our 2027 dates post has the scheduling-open date for each.
How to reschedule without losing the fee
Count the days. Thirty-one or more days before your appointment, log in to your Prometric account, choose a new date within your eligibility window and pay $35 plus HST. Thirty days or fewer, the same steps cost $75 plus HST. The line that matters is 120 hours — five days — before the appointment: inside that, Prometric will not reschedule you, and a cancellation or a no-show forfeits the $1,500 application fee. If you are ill or something serious happens in that final window, sit if you can, and if you cannot, email the MCC promptly with documentation; the MCC reviews late cancellations for extenuating circumstances and may grant a partial refund, but it is a review, not an entitlement.
Rescheduling moves you within the same session or to a later one inside your twelve-month window; it does not extend the window. If the new date you need falls outside it, buy the $120 extension before the window closes rather than letting the application lapse and paying $1,500 again.
Cancelling versus withdrawing
Cancelling is a Prometric action on an appointment; withdrawing is an MCC action on an application. If you cancel an appointment but keep your application, you can rebook inside the window. If you withdraw the application, the MCC retains a $750 withdrawal fee under its conditions and the rest is refunded — the right move only if you know you will not sit within a year, since applying again later costs the full fee. Candidates who are undecided are usually better off cancelling the appointment, keeping the application, and using the remaining months of the window.
When rescheduling is the right call
Postponing is a good decision when your timed practice scores say you are not ready and you have not yet crossed the 120-hour line. In the MCC’s 2025–26 year 48% of international graduates passed on their first attempt and 37% on a repeat; a $75 rescheduling fee that converts a probable fail into a pass three months later is the best-value purchase in the whole process. Use the MCC’s own $1 Preparatory Examination as the test: sit it timed two to three weeks out, and if you are below 439 on the same scale as the real exam, move the date while it still costs $75 rather than $1,500.
Postponing is the wrong call when it is anxiety rather than data. Candidates who reschedule twice on feel rarely feel readier the third time. Set a rule in advance — a target on timed blocks, a target on the preparatory exam — and let the numbers decide.
A checklist before you book
Confirm your eligibility window end date in physiciansapply.ca. Choose a session whose result date meets the deadline you actually face (CaRMS sharing deadlines fall in late October; see how and when results are released). Book the day scheduling opens for your preferred centre. Put the 31-day and 120-hour dates in your calendar. And build the study plan backwards from the date so that a reschedule is a decision you make from evidence in week eight, not in a panic in the final five days.
mccQbank’s 90- and 180-day plans are built to match one session: 2,200+ exam-style MCQs in English and Canadian French, timed and tutor modes, analytics by blueprint domain and weekly updates against Canadian guidelines. Start with 30 free questions or see plans.
