The Medical Council of Canada has published the MCCQE1 exam dates for 2027: four sessions, from January 19 to October 26, all delivered at Prometric test centres. If you are planning a 2027 sitting — or deciding between the last 2026 batches and the first 2027 session — this page has every date, the scheduling-open date for each, when results arrive, and how each session lines up with CaRMS and provincial deadlines. (The exam was renamed from “MCCQE Part I” to “MCCQE” on April 1, 2026; candidates and programs still say MCCQE1, and so do we.)

What is different about 2027
Two changes from the 2026 calendar matter. First, 2027 has four separate sessions where 2026 had three — the long August-to-October 2026 session with its three result batches is replaced by a distinct August session (August 10 – September 7) and a distinct October session (October 5 – 26), each with its own result date. Second, every 2027 sitting is in person. The MCC stopped offering remotely proctored appointments in August 2026, so you will need a seat at a Prometric centre, and popular centres in Toronto, Vancouver, London and abroad fill early in each five-month window. Which 2027 session fits your plan
Applying to CaRMS for the 2028 match? Provincial IMG streams need your MCCQE result in the application file by roughly late October of the application year — in the 2026–27 cycle, British Columbia’s sharing deadline was October 21 and Alberta’s was October 23. On that pattern, the August 2027 session (results early October) is the last one that reliably makes the 2028 match, and the October 2027 session does not. If you want a margin for a retake, the April 2027 session is the one to aim for: results in early July leave time to re-sit in August if something goes wrong.
Retaking after an autumn 2026 result? If your result arrives in October or November 2026, January 2027 is already schedulable and April 2027 opens in late November. Entering a Practice-Ready Assessment route? PRA programs also require the MCCQE and most require the TDM Examination, which has its own dates (January 13, June 16 and September 22, 2027). Sequence the MCCQE first: it is the broader exam and the one every route needs.
Before you can book: eligibility and fees
Scheduling is the last step, not the first. You need a physiciansapply.ca account ($150, one-time), a source verification request for your medical degree ($232 per credential) if you trained outside Canada, and an accepted MCCQE application ($1,500). Once the application is accepted you have a twelve-month eligibility window to schedule and write; a $120 extension is available, and withdrawing after acceptance forfeits part of the fee. Rescheduling or cancelling a booked appointment costs $35 plus HST up to 31 days before the date and $75 plus HST inside 30 days; inside 120 hours, or if you do not show, the application fee is forfeited. You may sit the MCCQE a maximum of four times, with a one-year wait after a third attempt. The exam is 230 multiple-choice questions in two sections of 115, scored on a 300–600 scale with a pass mark of 439, and a pass does not expire — see how long the MCCQE is valid for.
The remaining 2026 dates, for comparison
The 2026 extended session runs August 19 to October 21 and is scored in three batches: August 19 – September 11, September 12 – 29 and September 30 – October 21. Results follow roughly four weeks after each batch closes, with the MCC compressing the second batch’s timeline so that candidates could meet the October 21 CaRMS sharing deadline in British Columbia. If you have not yet applied, the practical choice is now between the final 2026 batch and January 2027; the January session gives you a defined result date in mid-March and no CaRMS pressure. A preparation timeline that fits the calendar
Whichever 2027 session you choose, work backwards from it. Four months out, be answering questions daily in tutor mode and building a list of weak topics. Two months out, switch to timed 115-question blocks twice a week and sit the MCC’s $1 Preparatory Examination once under exam conditions. Two weeks out, stop adding material and taper. In the MCC’s 2025–26 year 48% of international graduates passed on their first attempt; the candidates on the right side of that number are the ones who booked a date and built the plan around it, not the other way round.
